Change and Re-Arrange

This blog of mine has been through a lot of changes as I try to find out what my blog wants to be and what I want to be.  I haven't got it right yet.  I've come up with yet another idea.  I write a lot of poetry, I enjoy taking pictures, and I am forever scribbling notes to myself on bits of scrap paper.  When I write, I usually go back and re-write those poems until I get them right, and then file them away in a folder.  When I take photo's I usually leave them in the camera and enjoy them that way, unless I've taken the pictures for a specific project.  When I scribble notes to myself they usually end up in a box or a notebook and are never heard from again, although I do refer to them occasionally.  It's time to get all those things out there for others to see and published to share.  (If I make regular posts, perhaps I can also drive some traffic to my blog.)

Monday's . . .Monday's Poetry Moment
(I literally have a million poems.  Seriously.  Use my poetry as a prompt, a jumping off point for your own work, or just enjoy what I've written.  Please let me know what you think of it.  Positive or negative.)

Wednesday's . . .A Picture's Worth . . .    (?)
(I will post a photo that I've taken.  There will only be a photo.  No words.  Kind of a wordless Wednesday kind of thing.  If you use the photo I take in any way, such as: a writing prompt, or re-post it, or print it out and hang it on your wall, or whatever, please let me know how the photo was used.)

Friday's . . .Post-It Quote/ Prompt of the Day
(I intend to liberate my "post-it" thoughts from their secret hideaways and bring them out into the light of a new day.  If one of my thoughts invites your curiosity, takes you in new directions and to places that you might not go, please let me know.  It will serve as an inspiration for me, as well.)

Well, that's about it.  I'm also into other forms of art.  I garden, I sew, I embroidery, and quilt.  I'm sure photo's of these other artistic pursuits will show up on this blog from time to time, too.  Stay tuned ....

Writer's Digest Poetic Forms Challenge

“Robbin’ Hoods”

I pondered upon a gray, blue-black dawn
about the remains of my yesterday.
The people I’d passed by along the street,
folks I’d spoken to with Why? What? When? Where?
children played in yards, on sidewalks, at parks,
distant dogs barked behind chain-link fences.
We walked and talked, my neighbor by my side,
as we strolled around our neighborhood lane.
She turned to me and said, “Jump this fence here,
and grab that table out of this backyard.”

Friday, April 29, 2011  (#333)

Unfortunately, my poem didn't make the cut.  I didn't even place on the top 10 list.  I still like this poem, though.  It's fun!
And this actually did happen.  Although, I refused to jump the fence and later brokered a deal with the neighbor who had the table, so that my next door neighbor could have the table without a theft occurring.  It worked out great, too.  The neighbor with the tables had three tables of various sizes and he gave my next door neighbor all three of them.  She was delighted!

Check Out My Poetry!

I have been following the Poetic Asides blog throughout the month of April.  Robert Brewer of Writer's Digest Magazine has been writing poems and providing prompts all month long to celebrate National Poetry Month.  On April 19, he posted a challenge for a chance to be published in Writer's Digest magazine in a new feature: WD Poetic Form Challenge.  The challenge, this first time out, was 10 lines of 10 syllables.  That was all the instruction that was provided.  The poem that is chosen will be featured in the September issue of Writer's Digest entitled, "The Big 10" issue.  There will be a "Top 10" list posted, as well.  I posted my contribution on the website in time for judging.  I was #333.  So, the competition is fierce.  The contest deadline is April 29th at midnight EST.  As soon as a winner is chosen (I hope it's me!!!) I will post my poem here on my Chalk Outlines blog.

Quote for the Day!

Which type of person are you?  Do you dwell on the past?  Live for today?
Or look to the future?
Depending on where your mindset is today, I have a variety of quotes to fit.
Which one speaks to you?

If you dwell in the past:
"We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the life we have waiting for us."
Joseph Campbell
(*the past is over, let it go, move on)
If you live for today:
"There is nothing worth more than this day!"
Goethe
(*learn to live in the present moment)
If you look to the future:
"When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us."
Alexander Graham Bell
(*slow down, look around you, you're missing your life)
