Snow Day

Last Saturday, we had a little snow; like over a foot of the white stuff.

It was a dry snow and fairly easy to shovel, until the middle of the afternoon, when the sun started to melt the snow a bit and then it got a whole lot heavier.  It took forever to break through the end of the driveway to the street.  My car is so close to the ground I have to scoop the entire driveway.  I use to have a pickup truck and I’d just barrel through all the snow and up into the drive.  One thing I didn’t think about when I traded vehicles.

After six hours of shoveling snow, I finally had the drive cleared.  I really over did it.  I spent the rest of the day recovering, with aches and pains, and just plain exhaustion.  Thank goodness I didn't have to do the sidewalk and front slab.  My next door neighbor always goes out and clears the sidewalks and front slabs for the apartment complex.  He does that every time it snows.  The little lady on the end and I always appreciate this so very much.

Today, a week later, I walked outside to frost on the car windows and the birds singing in the trees.  Crazy birds!  I enjoyed the concert.  It actually made scraping the windshield enjoyable.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I participated with a group from work who decorated small pine trees to take to hospital patients over Christmas.  This was the tree I created.  I spent a Sunday afternoon hanging these red glass balls, creating popcorn strings (this took 3 bags of microwave popcorn, that's a lot for a small tree, of course that might be due to the fact that I had to sample every bag! LOL), and then I cross stitched the tree topper (a pattern I got off the Luli blog; Luli.).

Among the glitz and glamour of all the other trees, my homespun Christmas tree was a big hit!

Merry Christmas! :)

Silver Needles Quilt Show

It's Saturday, October 19 and you guessed it,
it's time once again for the Silver Needles Quilt Guild Trio:
quilt show, luncheon and auction.
This years theme:
Kansas Through The Eyes of a Quilter.
Here are some photo's from the Trio:

Welcome!

I use to just be nuts over snowmen.  O-Kay, I still am, that's how this quilt got into the mix.

Detail from a red and white cat quilt.  (Of course, I'd go to the embroidery for details!)

Ladies checking out the quilts on display.

Love those brights!

Filing into the dining room to view the decorated tables.

This year we voted on our favorite tables.  This table won first place.

Yum! Dessert.

My favorite item from the auction.  Unfortunately, I was not the highest bid.  Too bad . . .

Every year the guild does a service project and donates quilts to worthwhile organizations around town.

There was so much to see, so many ladies to talk "quilts" with, food to eat, prizes to win, and so much more.
This is just a slice of what took place on this day.

Embroidery Class

My Beginning Cross Stitch was held on Saturday, October 5 and fun was had by all.  I had two students and the class ran long because we were all so engrossed in our stitching.  Both ladies said they hoped I hold another class so they could learn additional stitches.  Maybe I'll do that during the spring semester of CLASS.

Here is a photo of Pauline and Mary working on their stitching.

Unfortunately, I don't remember who the designer was or the website there it can be found.

Daisy Days

Here's Wednesdaisy"

I guess I'm not going to do these blocks in order.  Once I traced off this block, this was the one that called to me.  So I'm starting with Wednesday and working backwards to Mondaisy and Tuesdaisy, I guess.

Daisy Days

I've gotten behind on Daisy Days.  After I picked out the block fabric and the floss colors I got busy with other things and never actually made any of the blocks.  Recently, I had a day off (well, part of a day off anyway) which seldom happens anymore and finally got the blocks cut out and drawn off.

Here's "Mondaisy"

Summer Stitching Club

I've completed the next four hexies for Summer Stitching Club.  Unfortunately, all I've been able to keep up with is the embroidery blocks.  I'm hopeful that once autumn arrives I'll be able to start making the rest of the hexies and put everything together, completing the project.

Ready to be made into hexies.
I got a bit carried away with the "sprinkles" and you can hardly see the face on the snow-cone.

Originally the popsicle was red (cherry) but I prefer orange popsicles so I changed the color.

Wonky Houses

Here is the final Wonky House-Wonky House #4.  I believe this is actually my favorite and it's also the one that took the most time to stitch.

And here are all the Wonky Houses together.  I'm going to use this as a table cover.  Originally I was going to stitch the tree-house separate and use it as a stand alone piece centered on top of and in the middle of the other three.  But as I stitched the houses I just felt it would be nicer to have them all together.  Here's the finished piece.

(Oops!  The comforter on my bed is showing through.)

Wonky Houses

I have finished 3 of the Wonky Houses and have started on the 4th one.  In the beginning I was going to make the 4th house be a stand alone house in a frame but then changed my mind and added it to the 4th corner of the table napkin.  Here are the first 3 houses, all nicely pressed and one of all 3 together.

I also have a photo of the 4th Wonky House as I prepare to stitch it.  It's a tree-house, how delightful!
